What started as a kitchen installation and bathroom remodel in Portland, Oregon turned into a full remodel of the entire space centered around a skateboard ramp! While it is safe to say that we had never built one before, we had some professional help from none other than our friend Tom “Wally” Inouye. Wally is a professional skateboarder and Hood River local who has been building skate ramps since the 1970’s.
The space we were presented with was a former knife sharpening shop with a garage that was separated by a partition wall. In order to have enough space for the ramp, we had to take out the partition wall while raising the floor to ensure a level base for the ramp. In addition, we needed to construct a half-wall in order to separate the skating area from the kitchen. Add in some new plumbing, a new shower, and new wiring, and you’ve got a skate palace like no other!
Before we were even finished, local skaters had descended on the place. It quickly became a regular spot for them and even some of our employees and contractors!
